Leighton Asia’s Cavite Laguna Expressway (Cavite section) project team in the Philippines spearheaded a clean-up drive at the Open Canal site office on 15 September 2022.
The clean-up was to support International Coastal Cleanup Day (the third Saturday of September of each year) and National Cleanup Month.
The Safety and Environment team took the lead in this event and reiterated the importance of everyone working together to reduce solid waste and protect marine biodiversity.
A total of 20 sacks of recyclable and residual wastes were collected by around 20 personnel including workers. The trash collected around the site office and adjacent area was mostly food wrappers, plastic bags, plastic bottles and scrap wood.
For materials that can be recycled, the team sorted them into different categories and brought them to Leighton Asia’s material recovery facility in Silang, Cavite City, for further sorting and reuse. While the residual wastes (non-recyclable and non-compostable wastes) were collected by the service provider for proper disposal.
The clean-up drive helps to raise the awareness of our team and the community to protect our environment. We are glad that our actions can become part of a collective effort to save the natural resources, benefiting us and future generations.
